3rd Grade Coloration Annotation : Social Studies - Capitalization & Punctuation – This product has a total of 36 pages.
Coloration Annotations are decodable readers based off the content required in 3rd grade TEKS for social studies and ELAR. This product is designed specifically to tackle content as well as the ELAR TEKS for the third grade. TEKS 6C, 7A, 8(A)(B), 10C, 9A, 9B, 11(A)(B) & C, 12B, 13B are addressed individually.
Below you will also see the specific social studies TEKS that are addressed, as well as the capitalization and punctuation components which students can mark or annotate as they read.
Designed as a fun, short book to read, students feel successful as readers and as social studies content learners. Feel free to use in grades 3-6 as needed for new readers as the social studies content should spiral back and cover all of the concepts within each Coloration Annotation booklet.
As students read through the booklet, they search for capitalization and punctuation skills and make the annotation marks stated below. Please note that all of them are not to be completed at the same time. On the front cover, we have labeled what can be accomplished in a first read, second read, and a third read.
The teacher will decide which of the capitalization and punctuation components should be circled/highlighted during each of the reads. It is recommended that no more than two capitalization and punctuation concepts be added during each new read. It is also recommended that teachers review the capitalization and punctuation concepts and not assume that students remember them from previous grades.
Throughout the different “reads,” students will observe and mark capitalization and punctuation concepts, and they will also be exposed to social studies concepts in spraying back/repetitive manner. This repetition of skill sets and concepts will show up in their reading comprehension as well as the construction of their SCRs and ECRs through the years!
We also highly encourage students to do this in partners and practice reading out loud to one another. It is often when students read out loud that gaps are discovered and are bridged.
The Coloration Annotation booklets make for fantastic stations, small group activities, and independent activities.
The Coloration Annotation booklets are beneficial for grades 3-6, new readers of any age, and new language learners of any age.
