TEKS Task Cards are designed with a short time frame in mind. They provide an excellent source of short tasks that accomplish long-range goals. The Teach BIG TEKS test cards focus on the most-missed TEKS in the released tests.
This item contains FOUR passages (fiction, non-fiction, drama, and a poetry piece), 16 QUESTIONS that address one of the TEKS, and an ANSWER KEY.
The mini passages are available in Social Studies and Science content areas.
Whether you use them at the beginning of the year before working up to lengthier passages, use them as a review leading up to the test, or use them every day to work on certain skills, the TEKS Task Cards are instrumental in highlighting the particular TEKS needs of students.
Each Task Card contains a short, mini passage (either a fiction, non-fiction, drama, or poetry piece) with 4 corresponding questions. Each question represents each of the 4 Dimensions of reading comprehension!
4 Dimensions:
- Knowledge/recall
- Text evidence
- Inference/Why
- Connections/How
This item also includes an answer key with possible answers, although some answers may vary. (For example, we will site one piece of textual evidence; however, multiple pieces of evidence are also correct answers!)
The TEKS Task Cards create excellent opportunities whole class discussions and for SCR and ECR practice as well!

The TEKS for this item are labelled with the grades 3-5 TEKS, although grades 6-8 can also use the cards for short/reteaching/tutoring opportunities. (This is because the TEKS are simply labelled with offset numbers, but remain similar.)
We will be adding TEKS Task Cards every week! So choose them individually based on genre, content, and/or the TEKS that will support your students’ needs the most!
The Teach BIG TEKS Task Cards are excellent for your HB 1416 tutorial groups, small classroom groups, learning stations, or individual focus work. Each group of students or individual students can even be working on separate cards that focus on different TEKS at the same time!
Collect them ALL this year and you’ll be set for next year, too!
