Chart of Common Blends: This item is a one-page chart that explains the possible blends. Consonant blends are a sequence of consonants where each letter sound is heard and blended together quickly to make a cohesive sound. There are beginning blends and ending blends. There are also blends that belong to the following letter families: L, R, S, T. Sometimes is nice to have charts like this so that everything is in one place for reference. Not all blends are taught at all grade levels. However, understanding the sequential Science of Reading concepts, allow for blends to happen after the individual sounds within that blend are taught. This increases the number of words that can be sounded out efficiently and earlier in the reading process.
