The purpose of Selection Collections is to expose students to a variety of genres. Included in the Selection Collection, you will find a nonfiction, fiction, poetry, and drama passage. You will also find text connection questions for text to self, text to text, and text to the world. Each Selection Collection also contains a word bank of academic vocabulary. Students will also have the opportunity to respond to short constructed responses via correspondence.

Selection Collections are short reading selections based on corresponding Social Studies TEKS combined with the 4 main genres in Language Arts - fiction, non-fiction, poetry, and drama. After reading all 4 of the selections for each SS TEKS, students experience reading comprehension questions and SCR prompts. This is an excellent way to tackle the SS TEKS while working on ELAR tasks as well.
