Task Cards: Emergent Prompt Thinking

These emergent task cards help students move from basic prompt identification to using verb phrases and simple justification to explain their thinking. Students practice underlining or circling key words in the prompt, deciding whether the question asks for WHY, Procedural HOW, or Relational HOW, and briefly explaining how they know. The focus is on slowing down, noticing the language of the prompt, and using evidence from the wording—before writing a full response.
